Silvio Rodriguez to Sing in Argentina

Havana, Oct 23 (Prensa Latina) Cuban singer song-writer Silvio Rodriguez will perform at the third Peoples Summit in the Argentinean city of Mar del Plata on November 4, according to Rebelion newspaper web site.

Invited by Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Perez Esquivel, president of the organizing committee, the popular artist will attend a mass demonstration against President George W. Bush and his policies for Latin America.

The third Peoples Summit on November 1-5 opposes the fourth summit for Presidents of the Americas, also expected to be held in Buenos Aires in the same month and attended by the US dignitary. Similarly, it intends to promote alternatives to contribute to the struggle against ALCA, said coordinators.

Participants at the event will analyze foreign debt, militarization and poverty, which are reasons to mobilize the whole continent in open protest against the visit of Bush and his policies, the source stated.

Summoned by the Continental Social Alliance, coalition of trade unions, religious and farming organizations and other social movements, the Peoples Summit was first held in 1997.

Since then it has lead the struggle against ALCA and the imposition of Free Trade Agreements.
